The History of the KJV Bible

Tuesday, July 20, 2010 @ 12:07 PM HisGoodBook

bibleThere have been two major recognized modern translations of the Bible from the original Hebrew language in which it was written.  The Church of England undertook the first of these translations in 1604, under the decree of King James I.  This was done in response to the perceived inaccuracies in earlier translations.  Thus the King James Version of the Bible was written, and is still hailed as the most accurate of the translations ever performed.

However, in 1975, in order to combat the antiquated language of the King James Version, a man named Arthur Farstad initiated a modern translation to update the vocabulary and grammar of the original King James Version.  The fruit of the project was the New King James Bible, and although not quite as accurate as the original King James Version, it has been updated to be understood and appreciated by modern audiences. Now you can even find the KJV audio bible online, allowing you to literally hear God’s word.

Get Your Reading Fix On The Way To Work

Thursday, June 3, 2010 @ 12:06 PM HisGoodBook

audiobibleWith our busy schedules and overcrowded lives, there are bound to be things that are left by the wayside. And unfortunately, for many people, one of the commonly eliminated pastimes is reading. With work, kids, commuting and cooking, who has time to sit down and read a book? If you can’t possibly rearrange your schedule to make time for the latest release, look into audio books.

The key to finding time in our schedules for leisure activities is multitasking. And audio books are a great way to do this. A lot of us spend hours in our car every day commuting to work. And usually that’s not a great time to catch up on reading. But with audio books, you can (safely) enjoy the thrill of a good book while you’re on your way to work. Most people only think of literature when it comes to audio books, but there are also audio bibles and other religious texts. Sitting in stop and go traffic is usually wasted time. But it doesn’t have to be downtime anymore!

The KJV Bible

Tuesday, January 5, 2010 @ 09:01 AM HisGoodBook

kjv20bible20crossIn 1604, King James I of England gave translators instructions to retranslate the various books of the bible and compile a new version.  In 1611, the labors of several years were realized and the KJV Bible was created.  This Bible was conceived in response to problems of inaccuracies in earlier translations, and is hailed to this day as one of the most exact translations.  The translators of the King James Bible used original scriptures written in Hebrew and Greek as their sources for the translations, and compiled both the Old Testament, New Testament, and Apocrypha.

The King James Bible is often the choice for studies of literature conducted at universities, and for bible study.  In terms of sales, there are more copies of the King James Bible today than most any other printed book throughout history.

Avoid Eye Strain During Bible Study

Tuesday, December 22, 2009 @ 09:12 AM HisGoodBook

audioReading small text can be extremely stressful on the eyes. Especially if you’re going to be reading for extended periods of time, the strain can result in headaches. And over the long-term, it can even lead to diminished eyesight. For many people, the Bible is something they read for many hours at a time, studying passages and making notes. This becomes a problem, as the text in Bibles is usually small to accommodate for the breadth of the work.

One simple solution to this problem is purchasing an audio Bible. These Bibles eliminate the need for extended reading and make learning the Bible an easy endeavor. I gave a audio Bible to my grandmother for Christmas because I saw how she struggled with her old, small print Bible. She was delighted with the gift, and it accompanies her everywhere she goes now.

The Inspirational Story of David and Goliath

Monday, November 23, 2009 @ 01:11 PM HisGoodBook

nivMy son’s religious education began early, and over the years I’ve purchased various bible translations for him to study. The first few were little more than glorified picture books. In time, his knowledge base and reading skills matured enough to allow him to graduate to the actual translations of the bible. His favorite bible story comes from 1 Samuel, chapter 17. It should be immediately familiar even to those who don’t study the Old Testament.

The story of David and Goliath is a rather violent one, but like many Old Testament parables it teaches a solid moral lesson. My son grew up enjoying the story so much in part because of his own diminutive size, which he used to view as a detriment. Now it’s clear to him that if David could go from being a nobody to the king of the Israelites, he could also grow up to do great things. Most recently I bought him an NIV audio bible so that he could enjoy the story even in the car.

Audio Bibles Available for Christmas

Wednesday, November 18, 2009 @ 10:11 AM IrBob

Audio BiblesI live in the Los Angeles area. Commuting on the freeways took over 2 hours each work day. Do you think that a knowledge of the Bible is only possible if you sit down and read it? I can’t say that studying the Bible should be done while driving on the freeway, but you can certainly prepare for serious study or learn more about what is in the Bible by listening to an audio Bible while driving. And it makes the drive a lot more enjoyable. CDs are available from many sources.

Listening to James Earl Jones or Johnny Cash reading the Bible, or to a dramatic presentation of the complete Bible by 400 well known performers, complete with music is certainly an inspiring experience and a way to spend some time relaxing at home as well as on the road. Audio Bibles are available for purchase online. The audio Bible is available in the New International Version (NIV)  and many other versions. If anyone likes an English accent, there is an audio English Standard Version Bible (ESV) available on CDs in MP3 format

Finding Comfort Away from Home

Wednesday, November 11, 2009 @ 03:11 PM HisGoodBook

audioHave you ever been away from home on a business trip? I have. I would eat my meals alone at fast food joints or bring something back to the motel. I was busy during the day, but I missed the time I used to spend with my wife and daughter. Talking to them on the phone helped somewhat, but it wasn’t enough.

Just when I was hitting a new emotional low, I was surfing the Internet and found some Bible audio books. It turned out to be exactly what I was missing – a reassuring presence for the long, lonely nights. My faith was restored and I was given some comfort that I was doing the best thing to help my family. Not only that, but it helped me brush up on Bible stories I hadn’t thought about in ages. The Gideon Bible found in many hotel and motel rooms just can’t compare with an audio Bible.
