Is the Bible Still Relevant Today?

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 @ 03:10 PM HisGoodBook

bibleIt’s not uncommon to hear skeptics on TV and in movies questioning whether the Bible still has meaning all these centuries after it was written. Doesn’t a book need to be timely and “up-to-date” in order to be relatable to a wide audience? In an era when 24-hour news cycles and rapidly updated blogs are the norm, it might be tempting to think so. On the other hand, I like to think of the Bible as the greatest work of literature ever.

Whether or not you believe its words to the letter, there’s no denying the quality of the parables and lessons that can be found within a modern King James Bible. Even though the stories describe an unfamiliar place and time – at least to us as modern Western readers – the conflicts and actions of the characters are instantly recognizable. If you think such an ancient book has nothing to offer you in the 21st century, you’ve got a lot to learn.
