Music Integral to Faith
Let’s face it: music is a central part of the Christian faith. Whether it’s coming from a classic church organ or a contemporary Christian rock band, music brings people together just as God does. When listening to worship music and singing or praying to God, the emotion that washes over you can be much more powerful. People might even start to feel a certain closeness to the Lord that can’t be matched with just speech and prayer. In addition, worship music is a great way to reach out to others to learn about Christianity on common ground.
My job requires me to travel a lot, so I often don’t have the opportunity to attend church services. Instead, I create my own worship time, carving time out of my schedule to pray and listen to those worship songs that instill the love of the Lord deep within me. I’ve also purchased an ESV audio bible, allowing me to focus on the word no matter how hectic my schedule may be. During particularly stressful days, I like to take a few minutes to listen to a passage and collect myself.
Teaching Children about God’s Word
It’s often not an easy task when it comes to educating children about the bible and also keeping them interested. However, introducing your children to the bible at an early age can help to foster future interest in the word of God and also knowledge of those life lessons He passed down to mankind. Getting your children interested in the bible often requires a bit of creativity, and you should be prepared to make a number of different approaches. You might consider bible board games that follow the journey of a biblical figure like Moses or Jesus. Alternatively, your child might be more interested in bible themed videos like one featuring the battle of David and Goliath. I’ve found that my children are quite receptive to books on tape, so I purchased a bible audio book to listen to in the car.
Whatever your children find themselves interested in should be your focus, as this is the medium through which they will learn the most. Remember, you can’t force it on them; otherwise they’ll just tune it out! The best education is gleaned from material you’re interested in.
